Change is like that unpredictable and quirky roommate that we’ve all had to deal with. It’s a constant in our lives, and we experience it every single day. As everything around us is shifting, morphing, and evolving, we need to adapt to remain comfortable, and most importantly, to have a clear vision of where we WANT to go. If we don’t adapt, we might end up feeling a wee bit unsettled and scattered.
Create Your Vision
Here’s the best part, with change comes the opportunity to create our own vision of where we want to go. Imagine someone handed you a blank canvas and a bunch of paintbrushes – the possibilities are endless!
With every shift, there’s an opportunity to create our own unique path and pursue the things we’re passionate about. Embrace the excitement of life and paint a picture of your destiny.
Why focus on your future right now?
Are you feeling a bit scattered or uncertain about where you currently stand in life? It’s never too late to take a closer look at your life situation and start taking action toward your desired destination. Remember, life is a continuous cycle of doors opening and closing, but if you have a clear idea of where you’re headed, you can handle the inevitable disappointments along the way. Why not make a plan, anticipate some bumps in the road, and enjoy the adventure that is your life? A little bit of prep can go a long way.
- Take a close look at where you are today. Taking action now will get you closer to where you want to end up in the near and distant future.
- Stay ahead of closed doors. Life is a never-ending series of doors opening and closing. If you know where you’re going, you can ease the strain when doors close. No need to look at them as negative – simply acknowledge, readjust, and move on.
- Make a plan. Without a formulated plan, you may end up in a ditch. We don’t want that! Make a plan, be wildly open to the potholes in the road, and enjoy the journey.
If you leave your life to chance, you may not like the outcome. Your future is within your control. The person you are today will become the person you want to be in the future but not without an individualized improvement plan.
Ready for a little daydreaming?
Your morning coffee is the perfect place to start! Don’t underestimate the power of your thoughts and ideas – they can make all the difference in shaping your life. So why not indulge in a long, luscious daydream and see where it takes you? What you focus on today can have a major impact on your future. Choose wisely! Remember, even the smallest ideas can lead to big things down the road. Go ahead, take a sip of that coffee, and let your imagination run wild!
Embrace “why” and avoid “should”
Exploring your why will lead you to the future person you want to become while side-stepping statements with should, will gently bounce you back to your why. Think of it as a hard-wired loop in your head. We tend to dwell on the negative, that’s where the “shoulds” live.
To connect with your “why”, reflect on these questions:
- How do I want to live my life?
- What do I want to be doing?
- Who do I want in my life?
- Where do I want to be?
When your mind loops back to should, allow the thought to fly by like a bird in the sky. Should statements are often the product of others or social norms, not your true self. Focus deeply on your true needs and wants by exploring your why.
When you’re ready, put your thoughts into written words. Or pick up those paintbrushes and dream. I’ve honoured this for decades and have experienced the magic it’s created in my life.
Your cozy comfort zone may be telling you there’s no need to imagine a different future. The danger of that is you’ll become whatever life throws your way. So, why not embrace the crazy ride that is your life and paint your future path. In the words of Peter Drucker, “The best way to predict the future is to create it.”
So, let’s start creating your future today! It’s within your control, and you deserve a plan. Don’t leave it up to chance. Your future self will thank you.
